Turks & Caicos - Transport
Air:
There are scheduled flights from Miami, Florida, to Providenciales by way of American Airlines.
Turks & Caicos Island Airways can get you around the island group, or to Providenciales or Grand Turk from Jamaica, Nassau, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico.
British Airways operates the only trans-Atlantic flights, with a Thursday and Sunday service from London Gatwick (LGW), which has a one-hour layover in Antigua.
Taxis:
There are plenty of taxis (a larger transportation van) in Providenciales and Grand Turk. Taxi pickup at almost any location on Providenciales is also easy to book by phone or email.
Taxis generally operate on a shared-basis, especially from the airports and are priced per person. Some taxis operate on a private basis but charges a higher fare.
Car Rental:
It is recommended for visitors to rent a car due to the complete lack of public transport and high costs of taxis.
Visitors from the British Commonwealth Countries, The United States of America, Canada and holders of International drivers license are permitted to drive for 30 days on their respective license. Visitors from all other countries are required to possess a Visitors Permit, which can be obtained at the Road Safety Department.

Just a quick update on clearing in at Sapodilla Bay. The customs office at the South Dock is not accessible by boat or dinghy as it is located in a working dockyard. You can however beach your dinghy at the access path between resort properties and walk to the main road and take a right and a right again to get to the yard. You will be given hardhat and vest and directed to office. Clearance was very easy otherwise. Note that the office does not have any idea what Sailclear is at this point, nor do they take credit cards. Optionally, they suggested that it may be easier for cruisers to head to South Side Marina to check in and then find anchorage once cleared. Sapodilla Bay is not within walking distance to any amenities or services but the holding was good in 10 feet of water with protection from North and East.
