Tanga - Docking

Select your download option below

The yacht club in Tanga has made many improvements for visiting yachts and is very welcoming to visitors. There is a fee for the use of the facilities (see comments at the bottom of the page for details) and a secure dinghy dock. There is now the possibility for drying out on careening poles, although it is wise to bring one’s own antifouling, as Tanzania itself produces only low-quality paint.

The anchorage off the yacht club (pictured below, courtesy of Jack Hunt) is very safe, security wise and offers good protection especially in southerly winds. During the summer months, when the kaskazi (northerly) winds blow strong, Tanga’s anchorage can be a bit uncomfortable, but never alarmingly so. The holding is excellent, in soft-ish mud.

    Data Entry3 says:

Reported by Jack Hunt of by Barbara Ann:

Tanga yacht club has a weekly club fee of 40,000 TSH, which is a little less than 20$.
The bar does not accept cash but coupons valued at 10,000 TSH can be purchased to buy drinks, which are reasonably priced, a beer costing 1,500 TSH, a little less than 1$.

There is a bus stop about 500m from the yacht club where shuttle buses into town (2-3km) can be caught for 200 TSH. The better option when returning from town is to take a bejaji (tuk-tuk) costing 2,000 TSH.
