Electricity:

  • Voltage: 110 V
  • Frequency: 60 Hz

Both 110 and 220 are available in Taiwan using American style plugs. Appliances and tools can be purchased with either voltage.

Water:

Taiwanese people seem to drink only bottled mineral water. Potable tap water is available. The pipes thorough-out the country once contained lead, however, they have mostly been replaced. Taipei had a celebration last year when the project was completed.

Fuel:

Normally available in fishing ports by arrangement.

LPG/Gas:

Taiwan uses propane cooking gas. The valve is similar to American tanks. Depots normally do exchange or you can pay a deposit and get a tank for a day to decant yourself. You’ll get the deposit back on return of the tank. It is possible to send out your tank to be filled, but it will probably take 5 or 6 days.

Marinas:

The marinas at Shaochuantou in Kaohsiung, Houbihu in Kenting, and Kang-tzuliao near Keelung have floating docks. Other marinas and ports have concrete quays.

Boatyards/haulout/repair supplies

Houbihu: Haulout by crane can be arranged, however, more than 35 ton crane has to come from Kaohsiung, two hours away. Marine railway for local fishing boats. They are reluctant to handle yachts. Local hardware and fishing supply stores only.

Kaohsiung: Several yards with travel lifts, mostly commercial, very expensive. This is where all the yacht builders have their factories.

Anping/XiDong: Reported travel lift and crane. Near Kaohsiung for supplies.
