Notice April 2022: Russian flagged or registered yachts are not permitted to enter any ports in Sweden. See news item for details.

Sweden is a member of the EU as well as a member of the Schengen Area.

With the introduction of the Europe-wide entry and exit system (EES) by the end of May 2023, biometric data will need to be recorded on entry and exit for third country travelers. While this negates the need to have passports stamped, it will require a visit to an official office at a port of entry, therefore flexible clearance at marinas may no longer be possible in 2023. It is not yet known how rigidly EES will be enforced for pleasure boat users.

ARRIVAL FORMALITIES

General Process:

Yachts arriving directly from a Schengen country (i.e. all countries bordering the Baltic Sea with the exception of Russia) with EU residents and residents from Norway, Iceland or Switzerland, do not have clear border control on arrival in Sweden. Nor Customs if there is nothing to declare.

Yachts coming from outside Schengen, or EU yachts with 3rd country nationals on board, or EU yachts that have passed international waters, should contact a port of entry and complete the Leisure Boat Entry/Exit Document at the Border Police website (scroll down to find links in English).

If details of crew and passengers are submitted in advance it is possible that permission may be given to enter a port that is not a border crossing point. This also means that all documentation can be processed and approved before the vessel arrives, thus avoiding unnecessary delays.

Taxable goods must be declared to Customs. See Customs for details pertaining to pleasure craft.

Customs offices are open 08:00-16:00 Monday to Friday. Outside those hours, captains must report by telephone to the nearest communications centre. The number is available from the Harbour Master.

Contacts:
