Cala Teulera (sp! not Tuelera or Teulada) is a well-sheltered anchorage and the only one near Mahon/Mao. It can get very crowded in summer. In the morning the Port Authority boat will come and knock on your hull and explain that you can only stay there for up to 3 days. They’ll also hand you a helpful flyer with a list of the myriad of different (and very expensive) berthing options, phone numbers, VHF channels, email etc.

Pedro’s Boat no longer runs the visitor moorings, instead, a new company “Muelle de Poeniente” is operating the visitor pontoon now. They had just started two weeks ago when we were there and were by far the most affordable option, at €73 per night for our 12.5m monohull (tip from another boat anchored at Teulera). Friendly and helpful mariners and office staff, reasonable English are spoken. Water with a long hose, electricity only at the wall, so if you are on the furthest berth out you’d need a really long cable. No Wifi, no facilities of any kind, but you can walk off the pontoon into town. Their office is still sharing a room in Pedro’s Boat Centre (a fair walk from the pontoon), but with separate staff. Pontoon is at the far end of the call, so a bit of a walk into town, but nearest to Lidl up the hill for provisioning (beware of Mahon’s incredibly bad taxi company though). Contact: amarresponiente@gmail.com +34 658 115 421

VHF 9 is shared by all the marinas in Mahon, so you must address them with the correct callsign or none will answer. One boat kept calling “Marina Mahon” for an hour and never got a reply because there is none with that callsign. If unsure, ask any boat anchored in Teulera for the flyer or anchor for a night to get one yourself 🙂

An update on Cala Tuelera. Anchoring is prohibited! However you can anchor there for 3 days! The harbour master came round and handed out leaflets to all the boats anchored there. So, 3 days is ok, then you have to move.

We stayed at Marina Mahon in late July 2015. There are 3 marinas in town, we were quoted well over 100 Euro for our 42 monohulls at all three. Marina Mahon is the only one that offers floating pontoons, two with power & water where we were quoted around 70 Euro, and one pontoon without amenities where we paid about 40 Euros. The pontoon is very secure & a short dingy ride to the town dock. We called the marina as we entered the harbour, the marineros came out to the pontoon to help with docking. Also, each morning the Mariners would bring a tasty fresh banquette to each boat on the pontoon – a very nice surprise!

Your website is fantastic! Many thanks for all the work involved in keeping it updated!

As there are ongoing questions as to whether one is permitted to anchor in Cala Teulera, Mahon, Menorca Spain, I thought I’d update the situation. We are currently anchored here, with no problem. Apparently, they are generally allowing people to anchor here once again.

We stayed in Mahon 4 days in Cala Teulera at anchor with no problems. Safe for all winds. In the daytime, there was some wash from glass boats coming around.
We stayed 2 days in Marina Menorca with very friendly and helpful staff. In the marina, there was free use of e-bikes for going to the shops. Only pay a deposit for the bikes of € 50,-.

With Pedro’s boat, the people were very efficient in helping with problems with the outboard engine.

    Just a few shops suggestions:
Chandlery: Best is Pedro’s boat – in front of Mao port authority buildings. After that, there are Nautical Center and Reys Nautica in the industrial zone.
Food: the cheapest I found is Lidl – located in the industrial zone.

Technics: Parrot – engine spares. They also do injector pipes if you bring one to them, about 30euro. Industrial zone, next to gas station above Marina Menorca.
Viper Superstore – food shop on the first floor and a HUGE amount of tools, paint and etc’ on the second floor. Located in the industrial zone.
Mistral – big second-hand shop. Far in the industrial zone on the way to the airport.

Posted on behalf of Phil Gordon, Yacht Deliverance:
Last year I reported that anchoring in Cala Teulera, below Mahon, was declared illegal except in the very unlikely event that all the town berths were full.
At the start of this season, it was all change, anchoring was unrestricted, reps from the marinas visited the anchored yachts offering berths but with no pressure. By the end of the summer, it had all changed again.

My understanding was that one was allowed 3 days (I think this meant 2 nights) before one was moved on. An exception would be made if all the town berths were full or if the weather was too bad to move. This is reasonable, one can visit the town do what is necessary and move on. The harbour authorities do not want long term liveaboards, understandable when one sees the shambles in St. Antonio.

We found a good and reasonable berth for 2 nights at Club Maritimo in August 2014. A few days ahead of reservation necessary in full season.

Mahon: The Sunseeker marina on Moll de Levant has now been taken over by Club Maritimo de Mahon. They are in the process of reorganising the c.48 moorings but on talking to the President he is very keen to make these affordable. Prices are likely to be of the order of from 0.23 (low season) to 0.90 euros per square metre (high season) plus taxes which seems likely to be somewhat less than reported in previous years. Visitors are welcome to use the Club facilities and a wifi aerial is being installed now. The website has yet to be updated but in the interim visitors should telephone the Club on 0034 971365022.
