Nauru - Security
In September 2021 Australia signed a new agreement with Nauru to maintain “an enduring form” of offshore processing on the island state for asylum seekers.
There are currently about 108 people held by Australia on Nauru as part of its offshore processing regime. Most have been there more than eight years and their presence continues to cause tension on the island.

I worked on the island back in 1973. As pleasant as my stay was on the island there is not a lot to see as you can drive around the island in 20 minutes. There are the mined out phosphate fields and a few World War 11 war relics and that is it…..
“In 2008 Australia ended its policy of housing refugees on the island.” — that is no longer the case and the very unpopular and volatile policy of housing of refugees on Nauru has been reinstated. Recent news reports indicate that there have been several riots on the island, with numbers of detainees having escaped from custody. I recommend avoiding visiting Nauru for the forseeable future.
