History:

  • March 2020: quarantine was introduced for arriving travelers and an Immigration Prohibition Entry Order – preventing anyone but residents, immediate family and ship and aircraft crew from entering.
  • September 2020: Montserrat was among the CARICOM states identified as low-risk COVID-19 destinations that allowed travel from similar states without PCR tests prior to arrival and without having to undergo a quarantine period. A travel bubble was created with St. Kitts and Nevis, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Montserrat, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
  • November 2020: travel bubble stopped being used by most CARICOM countries and Montserrat closed its borders once again.
  • October 1 2021: the country opened to vaccinated travelers arriving by air only, for a limited time period. Sea borders remained closed.
  • March 31 2022: all borders opened and all tourists welcomed.
  • July 2022: pre-departure testing ceased and testing on entry was introduced for all travelers, with quarantine if testing positive.
  • October 1 2022: testing on arrival and self-isolation was lifted.

We enjoyed our visit at Montserrat.
Visiting the volcanic-buried town of Plymouth was a special experience of a lifetime.

The Montserrat Tourism Division, phone +1664 491 4703, was very helpful in finding a tour guide. We connected with L&Yve’s Tours, phone +16644935031, visit Plymouth and many more. We enjoyed the tour with highly recommended guides.

Free Wifi in the harbour. Try to go during the week as museums and Volcano Observatory are closed not the weekend.

I can recommend the following Tour Guide – Joe Philips. His knowledge of the island and it’s history is extensive and he complements the tour with pictures and videos of the island both before and after the extensive volcano devastation. At the end of the tour he will email a link to some of the information that he has provided. His tours last 3-5 to 4 hours.Contact details are:
