Mauritius - Immigration
Passports must be valid for the length of your stay. Visas and Extensions of Stay are issued Free of Charge.
Immigration Procedure:
Travelers who arrive and depart with the same yacht, do not require a visa.
Citizens of most countries will be given a 30, 60 or 90-day visa on arrival.
Nationals of several countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, N. Korea, Libya, Mali, Pakistan, Philippines, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Yemen must obtain a visa before traveling to Mauritius, even in transit.
Nationals of Algeria, Nigeria, Myanmar (Burma), Madagascar and Comoros are given a two-week visa only.
For full details see Republic of Mauritius: Passport and Immigration Office Portal.
If a visa is required, it may be obtained abroad from Mauritius High Commissions or embassies and where these do not exist, from British embassies.
Other Visa Information:
Visa extensions can be obtained by applying to the Immigration office at Sterling House, a short distance from the waterfront in downtown Port Louis. Several forms must be completed and documents provided, so it is worth going there a day or two before to get the list of what is needed. Visa extensions of up to 180 days for owners and crew are commonly approved.
You can stay a maximum of 6 months, during any 12 month period, in Rodrigues, Saint Brandon, AND Mauritius (combined). If you want to stay longer than 6 months you must request an “exemption” from the Immigration Department. Your exemption request must be in writing and submitted near your 50th day of visitation. Your request will be sent to the Prime Minister in Mauritius for consideration. There are 13 legal exemption categories for extending your stay.
Outgoing Crew and Guests:
The yacht’s skipper (not the crew) has to get a letter from the visa section in the Immigration main office in Port Louis, permitting him/her to fly out. To get this letter (which one has to show passport control at the airport) you have to employ someone who will be responsible for the boat while you are away.
You have to bring a letter from that skipper as well as a copy of the skipper’s certificate and national I.D. Also needed, are copies of the first page of your passport, the page with the entry stamp, a copy of the health check document, your agreement with the marina, (or any other place you plan to leave the boat) plus the receipt for the payment to it. Lastly, a copy of your confirmed airline ticket out and back again at specific dates. It is possible that the airport Immigration officers may not enforce this rule but a possible penalty could be losing your flight.
You need the letter from Immigration when you clear out of the country, but you may well need some documentation when you check in at the airport on your return to prove that you have a yacht (e.g. boat registration and a copy of the letter from the guardianage company).

I would like to add my own comments re Yoann and Patrick – see below. Over the past year I have been seriously looking at purchasing an offshore vessel ex Reunion and after seeing their recommendations on Noonsite, I made contact with them both. I am based in NZ so it was all long distance, email and WhatsAp.
Both these guys ( and they do now know each other ) not only traveled across to Reunion to carry out a full and comprehensive inspection of the vessel but whilst they were there they carried out an amazing amount of repairs and maintenance, getting things going that quite frankly the owner had given up on.
These two, if you need electronics or mechanical assistance are honest, reliable, experts in their fields and their costs or rather lack of…is amazing. Simply I cannot recommend them enough. Dave Blackley. Kiwifarmer.

Yoann is indeed a reliable electronics fellow who is very friendly and capable. He would like you to also have his email address for all your electronic repairs. He’s fixing Prince Diamond’s Raymarine chart plotter. He can be reached at the phone number Tel: 572 34 80 6 or at yoann.ddm@live.com

For all your electronics, Yoann is a great guy. He operates all over the island and came to us in Port Louis. He was working on another boat at La Balise and offered to come to us at Grand Baie.
He installed a new Raymarine part for our chart plotter. He also gave us advice on our new VHF wire. Speaks perfect English and French. Call him on 572 34 80 6.
Hi everyone, my name is Alex, I was a cruiser for several years and I now live in Mauritius, and it might well be my turn to help other sailors. Let me know if I can assist with anything, contacts or directions, as facilities, equipment, and expertise are a bit scarce around here.
I work very close to the Caudan harbour. Drop me an email at alexsnow1184 at gmail.com (remove spaces) or text or call on 5257 3764 and leave a message. Hope you are enjoying your stay!
A new marina has opened 15 miles south of Port Louis, La Balise Marina. A safe and convenient place to leave your boat, especially if you wish to fly out of the country for a while. Entry channel depth does not exceed 1.5 m, so access is restricted to catamarans and centerboard. Contact : https://www.yachtmauritius.com/boat-management/. S/Y Dreamweaver
