Isafjordur, West Fjords - Docking
Isafjordur is one of the best winter harbors in Iceland and there is a project underway to expand the docking capacities in the inner harbour, for yachts.
Both visiting and local boats are kept in this protected inner harbor along a massively rebuilt floating pontoon. The Harbour Master’s office overlooks the pontoon. Lines are taken across to the opposite dock during the winter to suspend the boats off the dock. The boats are well tended and they are safe. Both local people and officials watch the boats and tend the lines.
Electricity supply is limited to eight plugs on the pontoons and there are no facilities for live-aboards.
There are secure summer moorings if there are no alongside berths available. It is also an anchorage here. However, during cold winters, there maybe ice in the inner harbour which can lock boats in.
It is possible to haul out here for hull painting and annual maintenance. There is a good supply of electrical, electronic and mechanical services in the town and many shops sell fishing boat supplies which can be used if needed.
