Anchoring:

There are two hurricane holes; Port de Plaisance and Riviere Salee. The passage north through the River Salee is tricky but do-able in daylight and good conditions if your draft is less than two metres.

However, the Bridges of the River Salee are closed until further notice.

There are moorings to the north of Ilet à Cochon which can be booked through the Marina Bas-du-Fort.

Anchoring is not permitted in the area defined by the following co-ordinates:

16°13’26.11 N / 61°32’44.71 W
16°13’32.43 N / 61°32’14.23 W
16°12’55.56 N / 61°32’25.71 W
16°13’00.09 N / 61°32’01.41 W

Marinas:

There are two marinas here, IMM is exclusively for superyachts and Marina Bas-Du-Fort, which is large and offers visitor mooring.

Ashore:

The yachting services here are some of the best in the Leeward Islands and they are experienced in dealing with many types of yachts. The marina site has many bars and eateries with free Wifi.

WARNING: DONT GO TO MARINA BAS-DU-FORT

The marina Bas-du-Fort is the most unprofessional marina I ever met. We have booked a slip 5 months in advance and got a written confirmation. Trusting in that we booked flights to Europe and made some contractors appointments. I got in touch with the marina 4 days before arrival by coincidence and they told me that they cancelled our reservation. They totally ignored that we had flights, commitments and safety issues. Not the slightest support was offered.

They simply forgot to inform me on time to give me the chance to meet other arrangements. Instead of confessing that they messed that up they started lying and talking bullshit about “force major” which was 100% not the case. This marina management caused us serious issues and costs.

We got some exchange afterwards with other sailors with local knowledge and they had only words about a bad reputation and incompetence for the marina management. We cannot disagree.

This terrible and dishonest marina management cost not only us a lot of money but also the Guadeloupe economy. We will never go there again. However don’t trust any statements, not even in writing.
