Piraeus (Athens) - Docking

Take care in the approaches to Piraeus, as it is very busy with ferries and commercial ships. Do not enter the commercial harbour.

The Zea Marina entrance is to the south of it. A large number of the yachts here are permanent and mostly fill the inner harbour, advance reservations are recommended. The port office is situated at the east end of the quay designated for large yachts in the outer area of the harbour. The shelter is good, but an uncomfortable swell can develop in the outer harbour in strong southerlies.

Alternatively, the marina built for the 2004 Olympic games, Athens marina (previously called Faliro marina) offers good shelter and lies to just the east of Mounikhias. The Flisvos marina lies about a mile across the bay but has few visitors’ berths. Yet another option is the marina currently being developed for the Tzitzifies Kallithea yacht club in the corner of the bay, just north of the entrance to Flisvos marina.

Another possibility is the private marina at Mounikhias, run by the Hellenic Yacht Club, but get prior permission before entering.

There is also the marina at Kalamaki, approximately 4.2 ms (2.5 miles) south.

Weather forecast in English on VHF Channel 86 at 06:00/10:00/16:00 & 22:00 UTC.

We have been using a company called Yachtech in Pireaus for service and repair to our engine and generator.
They have several very good mechanics, their work is good and they come when they say they will come.
The charges are reasonable and the principle CostaThomas is a pleasant chap to deal with.

A1 yachting – used their services several times this summer checking in and out of Greece. I first entered at Kos then exited at Lavrio the entered again at Zakintos and exited at Corfu.

All these location offices provided excellent services, quick and straightforward email support, agents making all arrangements fast and efficient. I would recommend to anyone A1 is the agent company for Greece.

Olympic Marine – spent over a month berthed there July till beginning of August 18. Overall impression not very positive. Would not recommend. Price not very cheap, 1,5k euro for a month.

Berths are ok, with side walkway, although this makes maneuvering tricky if you have boat parked next to you. No dinghy assisting during parking. Open to prevailing winds. Facilities are very limited.

No supermarket or even small food shop. Have to walk to town. Chandlery available, although odd working hours. Restaurant available, draft beer nice and cool.

Sanitary facilities not very nice but generally acceptable, although a walk away. Security almost non-existent. Gate to peer is always open. No dinghy assisting during parking.

I got ashore rope reel stolen… Office efficient over email but not nice when interacting personally. Post receiving was refused, though it is a normal service most other marinas.
