Kastellorizou - Clearance

See Greece Formalities for full details including fees for clearing into Greece.

This is a Port of Entry and all the necessary authorities are based here, conveniently within a three-minute walk of the docking area, just north of the ferry dock.

Due to the island’s proximity to Turkey, Immigration/Customs may visit the boat to check for illegal immigrants as this can be a problem in this area. Don’t be tempted to pop across from Turkey, anchor and go ashore in the dinghy without clearing in. Always inform the Port Police on VHF Channel 12 of your arrival. If you go ashore – you must clear in. Clearance fees still need to be paid, even if it’s just a quick visit.

Clearance Agents:  For private vessels the use of an agent for clearance is optional. However, for commercial vessels (rentals, charters etc.) it is mandatory.

Cruisers have recommended using an agent if you have specific clearance issues that require “flexibility” from the Greek authorities (such as not following the exit procedures from Turkey).

Immigration waves have stopped. Life has come back to normal. The reason for that is the fact that refugees are”blocked” in Greece since they are not accepted by other European countries and not any kind of real actions of NATO or Turkish. We will see what will happen in winter time again.

    Enjoy your cruising.

revisited this beautiful island and harbour May 1st, 2016. Clearing is very easy and relaxed, all officials are within a 3-minute walk of the docking area and will help with the paperwork.

No mention was made that we should use an agent, likewise when we cleared out here last Fall.
According to the Port Police, the flow of migrants has stopped completely since the agreement between Turkey and EU came into force.

We did see numerous deflated dinghies and used life jackets laying around, but during the 2 days we were in port did not notice any migrants being brought in.

Fuel is available through a tanker that serves yachts from the ferry dock when the ferry is not there (early morning and late afternoon). The tanker operator may be reached through Papoutsis Travel mentioned above or at +302246070619
