All resorts offer scuba diving and tours for their guests. The best diving is on Rainbow reef (about a 45min ride). Note that diving is best organized from Viani Bay with Dolphin Bay Divers or Jack Fisher (on the other side of Somosomo Strait, on Vanua Levu).

Great land tours with waterfalls galore! Try the waterslides nearby Waiyevo. Or take a bus/taxi to the North to hike either the Tavoro waterfalls or the Wainibau falls (in Lavena).

Bouma National Heritage Park is a project founded in 1990 with the technical assistance of NZ. The park has a visitor centre at Korovou with a maintained trail leading to all 3 beautiful waterfalls. Swimming is great in all 3 and the walk is easy and short to the first waterfall. Great to spend the day taking in the sights and to immerse in a tropical forest. The park has a second visitor centre in Lavena (a further 20 min by car). A 3-hour walk return will take you along the white & black sand beaches then through the forest to the interesting double-waterfalls of Wainibau. The path is well maintained and easy to follow. The guided walk will teach you many things about the area (see Simone). Admission fee in each centre is F$8 at this time (2005). (679) 880 390

    Data Entry1 says:

The provisioning in Somosomo is so-so; usually good fresh veg from roadside stalls, some hardware stores, an (unreliable) ATM and a pretty poor MH ‘supermarket’ a mile or so north of the village centre. The Indian ‘Sun City Supermarket’ at Matei has better offerings of branded foods as it caters to the needs of the small tourist resorts there. The Matei anchorage is usually well-sheltered from swell but is windy.
