Canarias Multinautica – DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE – We deliberately sailed to Tenerife to seek out the authorised Yanmar Master Dealer to service our engine before crossing the Atlantic. During the service, the technician hit our alternator with a hammer. During the first stages of our crossing, the mounting of our alternator failed exactly where it was hit. Although they admit to hitting the alternator in writing, they of course deny all liability. They then decided to switch the blame of the failure to the tensioner being bent which they saw when they serviced the engine. However, not until I reached the Caribbean did they tell me this issue. They took our money, stamped the service book and sent our family on our way across the Atlantic. These are seriously dangerous people. We are writing to Yanmar to report these actions where their guilt has already been admitted in writing by email. They should never be trusted to carry the authorised dealer badge.

Stayed in Marina Santa Cruz on Pontoon 5 for almost a week. Internet was fast and reliable. Marina staff extremely helpful and friendly, mostly English speaking. Had my Volvo Penta service done on both engines (I have a catamaran) and replaced my Vetus gasoline filter with a Racor.
Also got my Honda outboard into the maintenance service. Everything was executed professionally, despite the pricing is a bit higher than in the med, as is the case with most boat equipment.
Pollution, as mentioned by others due to ferries and cruise ships, is significant. It rained a few times and every time afterwards our boat changed colour from white to black (Ok a bit exaggerating…) The noise was OK, not really disturbing.
Hired a car which we could park right at the entrance of pontoon 5, very easy access. Pontoon 5 is the one that is the most far away from the entrance to the city but it is only a tiny little walk. Unlike most other pontoons this one is safer esp. not really easy to access with the card (by jumping onto on high tide for example).
The BONO discount card for the busses is not any longer available. The whole system of payment changed in September 2018

We stayed in Santa Cruz, Tenerife during September / October 2017. The marina was nice overall, but we did not care for the pontoon we were docked at (the dock was labelled PP – was floating but med mooring style), all the way at the end of the marina. If you can, request a space at one of the floating finger slips – you will feel more secure there. Each dock had its own locking gate, but PP dock was up against the walkway where anyone and everyone would walk down and stop and stare at your boat. If they wanted to, during high tide, they could have easily jumped onto the dock.
The bathrooms were okay – there were plenty of showers. There were two washing machines and one dryer. The internet was absolutely horrible. The only way we could get it to work was by going up near the marina office and even then it was touch and go. For good internet and cheap beer at 1.50 euro for a big one, we would go to a little place next to the Lizarran on the main street with all the restaurants and shops. I don’t remember the name of it – it started with an M and had the number 100 at the end. But it’s right next to the Lizarran.
There is a Marine store and sailmaker which is outside of the marina, a few blocks down and near a small Dino. It was helpful but didn’t have a large variety of things.
The market was extremely nice – the best market we’ve been to. You will find any kind of product you are looking for, spices, meat, and the fish market was spectacular. You can order your mussels, shrimp, or oysters at several of the stands and if you would like your fresh seafood right then, you can sit on a barstool at one of the small bars and they will serve you your order along with a glass of wine.
While in Tenerife it’s definitely worth hiring a car to tour around the island for a couple of days. We shared a car with friends for a day and toured the northern part of the island, which was really beautiful.
It’s also well worth it to take the tram to La Luna and take a look around – a beautiful town with colonial style buildings.
While we enjoyed our stay in Santa Cruz, we were very frustrated with the pollution and black soot from the ferries that docked nearby and left black soot all over the boat.
We had contacted 4 other people to make a Bimini for us and had no luck in getting people who could speak English or who turned up. Samuel was recommended to us by the chandlers opposite the military museum. They were very helpful in this chandlers.
Samuel created a bespoke Bimini for us, we have a Moody 425 and wanted one we could have up whilst sailing downwind. Samuel’s English is reasonable, but we also used google translate to ensure we both understood each other. Samuel did keep in touch by phone and text and he delivered, although I did have my doubts that it would get done on time! It was actually completed 2 days before we left.

We bought a reconditioned Furler from “Nordest Chandlers”, they spoke excellent English and turned up when they said and on time!
Cheaper to hire a car from the airport than it is in Santa Cruz.
Buses are excellent, get the 910 to the beach 75 cents or €1.50 cash. If you get a (Bono Card) discount card from the bus station or local newsagents then bus travel is 50% off. To get to the South airport you can get the 111 bus from the bus station (20 mins walk from the marina). Cost €6.45 one way with a bono card. It cost less on the way back, but I don’t know why! It took 1 hour 10 mins to get there and 45 mins return. Use the bus app GuaguApp. The city bus tour is not worth the money, we walked to most places.
Local Spar across the road. Carrefour will deliver for free if you spend over €60 Euro. Dino supermarkets also deliver. Good large pharmacy out of the marina and to the right. I went to the small pharmacy directly opposite the marina and was sold herbal tablets and told they were paracetamol, and they spoke excellent English.
Whilst in this marina another sailor had their bicycle stolen at 6 am. It is easy to get onto the pontoons without a card, the marineros were around 24 hours, but they don’t police the pontoons.
Experienced a problem with electronics on the way down. Contacted Pepe from Raymarine – brilliant service, he is magic. Unfortunately used Spinnaker for our rudder bearing. They over-charged on work not completed – not much knowledge of boats. Go directly to Darsena Pesquerra to arrange your own work, or use the sheet provided by the marina. Live and learn.

We called the port authority on arrival and they advised us to proceed. We called again as instructed when we got to the marina entrance. Tried to call the marina, but no answer although the guy was standing waving on the pontoon. Apparently, they only have handheld radios, so they can hear you but can’t respond. They helped with our lines.
Wifi only near the marina office. Good laundry, €5 euro per load but includes soap powder. Clean toilets and showers. Marina office is very helpful and speak good English.
The cards for entry to the pontoon only work on your pontoon, so if you want to visit another boat you have to get someone to let you in.
We have not felt any wash in the marina.
€3 a day if you want to park a hire car here –
€20 deposit.

Really difficult to get repair companies to come out and also to come when they say they will.

I paid 16.29 Euros per day here for a 10m boat. Water, electricity and WiFi are included in the price. Showers and toilets are clean. Marineros are professional. Receptionists are very helpful. All speak English. The marina has a lot of space. There is a laundry on-site, 5 euros per load.
Stainless steel welding is carried out by “Fred” in marina Santa Cruz. Just ask at reception. He made us some security grills while we were in the marina it took him quite a few trips back and forth to his workshop to get them right but he never complained and the work was completed in good time.
Gas is available in Santa Cruz but you have to find the correct depot, it’s hidden up a side street, dead end, near the indoor Karting. About 20 minutes walk from the marina. They will fill Calor bottles.
