Puerto Rosario - Docking

Anchoring:

There is an anchorage about 150 meters west of the head of the western breakwater on a sandy bottom with depths of 6 – 8 meters.

Docking:

Puerto del Rosario is more suited for commercial shipping or fishing vessels and yachts are better served by the small marina at Caleta de Fustes, a few miles further south.

However, pontoon space is available for boats up to 20m LOA and 7m beam (these larger ones berth alongside – boats up to 12m tend to get put on hammerheads).

Water and electricity available at the berth.  Toilets but no showers to date (expected shortly). There is a fuel dock, but no yard facilities yet. The pontoons have restricted entry, controlled with a pass given out at reception.

As they don’t take reservations in Puerto del Rosario (a similar situation to Marina Las Palmas), the best thing is to call up a couple of days prior to entry – or even the same day. The office is open weekdays from 08.00 – 14:00.

As in Marina Las Palmas and all of the Puertos Canarios, charges are for the day and not the night, (so on the invoice it may look like an extra day is billed, if people are used to being charged by the night).

Puerto Rosario has increased the mooring fees as of February 1st 2021. From this date you pay mooring fee per day instead of per night. This means that you have to pay the day of arrival but also the day of departure. So if you stay one night you have to pay twice as much as before. In our case we paid for one night for a 12.6 x 3.95 m boat 2 x 16,30 = 32,60 euro. Because of this new rule Puerto Rosario is one of the most expensive marinas for a short stay. There is no toilet, shower or wifi available.Water and electricity are included.

We stopped in November 2019 at Puerto Rosario. As we arrived after sunset we wanted to anchor on the SW area outside the harbor for the night. Please be aware that this is no longer authorized, we were obliged by the harbor police to get in the Marina. This new marina is being finalized. Most pontoon are there but no electricity or water yet. Water could sill be available on demand.

Some of the port is under construction with new pontoons being fitted, making it impossible to get any fuel from the fuel berth, much to our surprise. We contacted Puerto Castellio at Caleta de Fustes and they also said that they were closed till next season. Lucky we are a sailing yacht.

You can anchor SW of the new cruise ship pier with the reasonable holding in sand and rock. Good shelter in all N sector winds but open to SE. There is a slipway at the club Nautico and they are happy for you to come ashore there. Security is minimal so lock the outboard but port police to patrol.
