Marau - Activities, Attractions & Shopping

A classic town coming alive on market days, especially Saturdays. The pleasant, safe atmosphere with very few yachts visiting and hardly any tourists.

From here you can take your dinghy and go the 6 miles right up to the foot of a magnificent waterfall, good enough for a champagne picnic.

Mind the “cutting-grass” in the bush, as this grass tears the skin very badly and you can get seriously stuck in it!

At the waterfall, there is a small working gum-tree plantation and a derelict aqueduct close to a tiny village. It’s a full day’s excursion, but well worth it. Plenty of wildlife, birds, and fish in the surrounding mangrove swamps. Surprisingly few mosquitos! Best time is around high water.

    Data Entry says:

Where do I start with telling cruisers about the 3rd largest bay in Brazil, Camamu Bay. This Bay should be on everyone’s cruising agenda. The scenery is spectacular, the beaches are beautiful, the free coconuts are endless. The people are super friendly and beyond helpful. The anchorage at Goio and Marau are easy. The anchorage down at the waterfall is tricky with the tides but worth a night’s visit. No facilities down at the waterfall so stock up. Supplies can be bought at Marau including booze. Marau also has a ATM with a 20R$ on your cash out. I also noted at the two supply stores they had credit card machines.

Gioi, doesn’t have any shopping facilities either but stock up for a few day’s as it’s a beautiful spot . Gioi from the local pub is friendly, helpful. He also supplied us with water daily at no charge. No security risks here what so ever.

I hope my little comment will make you and your loved one/s stop off in this beautiful bay.
