Vila da Praia - Docking

Berthing:

In this harbour, you may be directed to moor alongside the stone quay on entry to the inner harbour, (water only available), or on finger pontoons laid on the inside of the breakwater (water and electricity available). If very busy, anchoring is the only other option.

If unsure, it is better to anchor off and seek local advice as there are limited berths suitable for yachts. These are often used by bigger fishing boats who, understandably, are angry if they arrive back in the middle of the night to find you in their berth.

The inner end of the harbour wall has good depths (up to 3m) but be aware of the prop-wash from fast ferries and supply ships arriving and leaving.

It is recommended to keep an eye on the weather forecast as would not be protected in strong easterly winds.

To date, berthing here is reported to be free.

There is a new marina being constructed at Cais da Barra on Graciosa. It is likely to be up and running by 2021. Both of the outer walls have been completed and it now needs pillars and pontoons, electricity, water etc.

    Data Entry1 says:

In May 2014 we were directed to moor at the stone quay immediately to port on entering the inner harbor (no electricity, water from a single tap on a nearby building). We spent 2 nearly swell-free and free nights. 2 other transient boats of about 40ft had slipped on finger berths with electricity and water, also completely and unconditionally free.

GNR office directly opposite of the slipway in the oldest part of the port. Good restaurant in town, 2 minutes by foot.
I have doubts that this would be a safe place in stronger easterly winds.
