Panama, Caribbean, Panamarina: Burgled Twice – November 2015
Published 9 years ago, updated 6 years ago
My boat was left unoccupied at Panamarina on one of their mooring buoys. In my absence, it was broken into and fishing gear was stolen twice. This happened last November 2015, and other boats were also burgled at the same marina.
The stolen items were located both in the starboard hull, in the salon and in the port aft cabin. My boat is a 37-foot sailing catamaran.
I did report the theft to the marina owners (Silvie and Jean-Paul Orlando) immediately, however, their reaction was dull and sloppy…..almost as if to say “too bad for you!”. They said they would report the theft to the police and get back to me……but never did. Totally unacceptable! I changed marina and will never go there again.

Panamarina have responded as follows:
Indeed, in October 2015, we had thefts on 3 boats on buoys.
We have since increased the number of guards vigilant ashore and on the water 24/24. Since then, we put 32 surveillance cameras with alarm and automatic sensors spots.

I used Panamarina few times to store my boat. Both on land and on moorings, few months at a time. I will do it again, because I feel it is safe, friendly and atmosphere is nice. And if anyone ever breaks into my boat and steals my fishing gear, I would be happy it went to someone who evidently really needs it. Provided they left the rest intact, I ll be quite content (and probably surprised).
