Description:

Porto Degli Argonauti is approximately 20nm south-west of Taranto on the west side of the Gulf of Taranto. It is a purpose built a marina in a tranquil pine forest setting, surrounded by villas and a hotel.

There is no town here, just one restaurant, one pizza bar and a small supermarket with basic stock. These shoreside facilities are open from May until the end of September.

A breakwater with red and green lights extends about 300 meters into the sea. The entrance channel is dredged to approx. 3 meters which continue into the harbour. The entrance channel is narrow and would likely be untenable after a prolonged SE storm. If conditions are such, it would be wise to contact the marina in advance for a report on current conditions, or use an alternative nearby port such as Taranto.

Position:

40°19.923’ N, 16°49.0824’ E (start of the entrance channel).

    Data Entry1 says:

Came up here due to weather conditions. The “Marina” is part of a holiday resort, has room for about 450 boats and host approx. 120 right now. There is a boatyard with travel lift capable of all kinds of repairs. Now, in the middle of March – offseason – everything is closed here. But one can see, that the place offers different cafes and restaurants during the season and I suppose in July and especially in August it will be very busy here!

There is the long beach of the gulf just some minutes walk through a shadowed forest. The harbour itself is well protected and the staff takes great care of everything and everybody, also at this “off-season” now. Very friendly and helpful.
