Yerakas (Limin Leraka/Gerakas) - General Info
Description:
Situated on the SE coast of the Peloponnese, 12NM north of Monemvasia, Yerakas is a useful port of refuge offering very good all-around shelter. It is tucked up a narrow entrance between cliffs with a dog-leg turn to starboard.
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
In strong northerlies, a surge can develop in the harbour, but this only makes things slightly uncomfortable, not dangerous. Be wary of strong winds that gust down from the hills.
Cruiser Highlights:
There are two tavernas here and very little else, just peace and quiet and lovely walking ashore.
Position:
36° 47’13″N, 23° 05’30″E (entrance to the bay)

There is now water and electricity available on the old ferry dock, (no ferry comes), cards for this available from the first taverna.
We sat out some very strong winds here that gust down from the hills, the holding can be not so good in weed, important to dig the anchor in hard when docking and run out Brest lines.
A nice port to spend time.

The tiny port of Yerakas is well sheltered by steep hills and a dogleg turn to starboard makes this an ideal port to take cover if the weather turns. It has two tavernas on the very shallow town quay, most yachts go to anchor in here.
A grand peaceful port is Yerakas, there is a pleasant walk for miles on the flat along the shoreside or a great climb to the ruins of an ancient village high on the hilltop. The locals here are a friendly laid back lot who appreciate the business the yachts bring in.
The tavernas are not of great quality, being run in the summer months by fishing families where the mother and daughters do the cooking and the fishermen serve up, badly I might add, but they are cheap and the food is wholesome, you’re guaranteed fresh fish everyday mind.
