Marina Cayo Largo - General Info
Description:
Located on the south of Cuba in the Los Canarreos archipelago this is a useful port of entry if arriving from Islas Mujeres, Mexico, with a decent marina in a sheltered lagoon. This is a Government run resort island, so no cash is accepted.
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
Care is needed when heading for the marina due to the presence of shoals across this expanse of water that permit only vessels that draw less than 1.3m to pass.
Cruiser Highlights:
Lots of water activities including diving and snorkelling.
Position:
21°37.8’N, 81°34.8’W (marina)

Reported by Brian Simm:
Checking in at this modern, small marina could not be more different from Mexico.
The 48hr passage from Isla Mujeres and shelter from forecasted norther.
We arrived at 8.30 am on a Sunday, captain of the port, marina manager and immigration were waiting on the dock at 5 minutes notice.
Papers took for completion elsewhere, visas given and returned in 30 minutes. The doctor arrives after 20 minutes for a short check. Agriculture apologetically after an hour, strict quarantine rules waived on the promise that food will be kept on board, (and 2 beers).
Any rubbish landed is automatically burnt.
No extra copies of any papers required, Bank opens 7 days for an exchange, single payment to marina manager, Evilio, at your leisure later.
Could not be easier or more polite!
You should see the snappers and tarpon under the bar dock… local crocodile attends bar most evenings.. lunch for 2 with beers $10.00. 1 CUC = $1.00 .
