Description:
Tauranga is a large sheltered harbour in the Bay of Plenty, located 144NM south-east of Auckland, on the east coast of New Zealand’s North Island.
It has become popular for yachts coming from the Pacific to be based during the hurricane season.
Entrance Notes and Cautions:
Be aware of tidal flows and shipping traffic particularly cruise ships during summer. As you come within range of Tauranga (70NM), contact Plenty Maritime Radio on VHF Channel 68.
