Banda Neira - General Info
Description:
This amazing harbour is formed by three of the volcanic islands in the Banda group. The nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon which once drove explorers to Indonesia have long since been dispersed to grow in other places around the world. This is a sleepy island town now, but reminders of the past are everywhere.
Position:
4°35′S 129°55′E

Thanks for picking up on this Tom, having checked with Anthony the south and middle waypoints are correct.
The hotel should be 04 31.406S 129 53.850E.
West should be 04 30.975S 129 53.533E.
He also says that in practice you will eyeball the places as you come in as they are very easy to spot.
Thanks for sharing this Anthony (or Sue). I am planning to sail there later on this year. However, there seems to be something wrong with the GPS coordinates of the “Hotel Anchorage”.
They are identical to the coordinates of the “South Anchorage” that you refer to…
Can you help out?

ANCHORING IN BANDA
Anchoring at Banda is much easier than is generally reported. Our rally fleet was split among four anchorages.
Hotel Anchorage 04 32.641s 129 54.133e
Stern to the wall with two lines ashore
Advantages:-good shelter, in the town centre, easy to get water, rubbish disposal
Disadvantages:- can be noisy, the danger of prop wash from the ferry, no wind for the wind generator.
West Anchorage 04 31.108s 129 53.885e
Stern to trees with lines ashore
Advantages:- Quiet, good for wind generator
Disadvantages:- Difficult to get the anchor in, lee shore, 0.75 miles to the dinghy dock
South Anchorage 04 32.641s 129 54.133e
Free-swinging anchorage
Advantages:-calm, good holding, good for wind generator, little current even at springs.
Disadvantages:- 1 mile to the dinghy dock.
Middle anchorage 04 32.052s 129 53.982e
Free-swinging anchorage
Advantages:- Good holding, good for a wind generator, relatively calm
Disadvantages:-0 .6 mile to dinghy dock, strong current at springs
