Sete - General Info
Description:
Lying about 80NM west of Marseille, it is just 20 miles from the National Park of the Camargue. It is a very busy port with a huge number of boats of all types coming and going. It has a real buzz of its own, forming as it does, one of the gateways to Europe’s inland waterways.
This is not the most comfortable of ports for yachts. Commercial shipping has right of way and the fishing boats speed through the harbor at speed.
It is a useful stop in preparation for stepping/un-stepping the mast if entering/leaving the inland waterways system.
Position:
43° 23.52’N, 3° 41.90’E (western entrance)

Sète is a charming, lively canal town and the port is friendly and helpful. They’re pretty full and didn’t take reservations (July 2020), but you can call them on the day of departure and they’ll let you know if there’s space. They have a small crane in the port for unstepping the mast, for which they’ll charge only 45 EUR. A night for my 9m boat was 25 EUR.
I loved the place and the vibe of it and hope I’ll make it back.
